Sliding door tracks sit above the floor. That small lip is easy to catch with a toe, a walking frame or a wheelchair castor.
A rubber threshold ramp is one of the simplest, most cost-effective ways to address this common trip hazard.
What Is a Rubber Threshold Ramp?
A rubber threshold ramp is a short, wedge-shaped ramp that turns a raised lip into a gentle slope.
At Complete Assist, we use recycled rubber ramps that are non-slip, weather-resistant and cut on site to fit the doorway.
Ramps can also be made with a side wing, allowing the side edge to taper down to the floor rather than leaving an additional step.
Who Can Benefit From a Threshold Ramp?
Rubber threshold ramps can help people who:
– Use a walking frame, wheelchair or mobility scooter
– Shuffle or have a shorter stride
– Are at increased risk of falls
– Need assistance from a carer when moving through doorways
These simple modifications can make moving between indoor and outdoor spaces easier and safer.
A Practical Solution for Sliding Doors
A rubber threshold ramp is positioned directly against the sliding door track, reducing the raised lip on the inside of the doorway.
In a recent Complete Assist project, we installed a rubber threshold ramp cut to fit neatly against the existing sliding door track.
We also constructed a timber deck outside, close to the height of the track, allowing the client to move between the indoor and outdoor areas with almost no change in level.
The result was a smoother transition through the doorway and improved accessibility for the client.

Small Changes Can Make a Big Difference
A small lip can create a significant barrier for someone with reduced mobility.
Rubber threshold ramps are quick to install, affordable and durable, providing a practical solution that can help clients move around their homes with greater confidence.
